momstandsisitI posted a thread in my little forum to go ahead and make a running list of things that I love about Wizardry Online, I’m working on a thread for things that I don’t particularly like about Wizardry as well, but since this is is a fan site I figured it would be prudent to make the good list first!

My Mom has even gone ahead and weighed in on the matter as well, posting some of the things that she likes about the game (and some of the things that scare her too!)

Wizardry with my Mother, Reloaded.

Indeed, you heard it right, it’s on AGAIN! In our last episode, I used my charm magic to get my Mom to play Wizardry online with me, and I told you a bit about our night. I’m gonna go back to that first part into a little more detail first though, how the heck did I get my Mom to play Wizardry with her?

It’s not a game that  people who don’t usually play games like this would pick up and start playing, it’s billed for being particularly difficult, or ‘hardcore’, it was a pretty weird idea. However I had one thing going for me, my Mom loves Science Fiction and Fantasy, and I believe played DnD back in the day.

Small Updates – Wizardry with mom, New Races page, forums.

I’ve gone ahead and laid down a nice Races page, I’ve gone and restructured the menus, so check through them all to see what I’ve done! New dungeon guides and my overly detailed maps coming very soon! I’m playing Wizardry with Mom tonight for round three, so I’ll have a new post up soon! I’ve been wanting to implement some forums, and I’ve finally gone ahead and done it! The forums are obviously barren as they’ve just started out, so I’m going to offer the link and call it a “Beta” for now, thus officially begins my call to arms in populating the forums.

It is during this probationary term that I wish to assign moderators, and strengthen my vision for the forums, the forums will be integrated into WizFanaticus.com and your credentials for the blog will work on the forum!

As I said this is a period of decision making and testing, so if you’ve ever wanted to help moderate, and shape a forum, this could be an opportunity, introduce yourself in the forum!

Wizardry with my Mother!

So I somehow convinced my Mom to play Wizardry Online with me! My Mom is not a heavy gamer, she’s got quite a bit of experience with the consoles, especially if you go back to the ps1 era, she’s got a lot of experience. However she is a PC power user, she’s also hardcore enough to beat gears of war on insane mode, but WASD / mouse styled games are not in her sphere of experience. A more seasoned Mouse/Keyboard gamer may not realize it, but it’s actually quite difficult to get your bearings in a game like this, especially when your character and the camera angle/position are completely independent of each other.

The Connection problems seem to be behind us!

I wanted to take a quick minute to go ahead and report that I’ve had nothing but great connections with Wizardry, the only thing that has been happening is that over the course of a few hours of playing I got disconnected, if I tried to reconnect without restarting the client it would hang at connect, but after restarting the client it would put me through straight away and things would be perfectly fine! I’m going to be writing a blog post about my play time last night, but for now I need sleep!

Server Downtime?

There was recently a downtime for maintenance, and some of the problems that were experienced seem to have been fixed but the delay ended up coming out in the load screens as a result, the long load times seem to still be an issue with connection rather than the loading of assets. I got to play a bit this afternoon and things were intermittent again. It seems once you get going everything ends up starting to work out for you, but then…

BAM…

Disconnected- and now it seems like the server is down, I haven’t been able to connect at all!
I’ll be putting the infos here when I’ve got em!

Edit: Just got my answer, must have been a reboot or something of the flavor, the server is back up and I just loaded straight into the game :)

And here’s a source on the forums for the reboot. From what I can tell others are having the same problems as before, but I have had good results from the reboot, we’ll find out more in time!
